Let's Talk Vitamins and Minerals

I will give you some information about vitamins and minerals. I will tell you what each vitamin and mineral group is for. Let us begin with Vitamin A. Then Vitamin B, C, D, Calcium and Iron.

Vitamin A


  • Aids night vision.

  • Keeps skin and mucous membranes healthy.

  • Helps normal development of bones and teeth.

Vitamin B(Thiamin,Riboflavin and Niacin)


  • Helps the body use energy contained in food.

  • Encourages normal growth and appetite.

  • Helps the nervous system function properly.


Vitamin C

  • Helps heal lesions and maintains healthy gums.

  • Keeps the walls of blood vessels in good condition.


Vitamin D

  • Helps the body use calcium and phosphorus to build and maintain healthy bones and teeth.
Calcium


  • Helps build and maintain healthy bones and teeth.

  • Helps normal coagulation of blood and normal functioning of the nervous system.
Iron
  • Helps build red corpuscles needed for carrying oxygen.
There is also a combination of Calcium and Vitamin D.


Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. For this reason, milk is an ideal food, because it contains both Vitamin D and calcium.

Another combination would be Iron and Vitamin C.


Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron. For example if you serve liver for dinner , you should include a food rich in Vitamin C like an orange, grapefruit, kiwi, cantaloupe, strawberries, tomato juice or broccoli.
