Staying Away From Colds

I just wanted to talk about how to stay away from colds as the winter comes to an end.

As you go out of your home, make sure to wear a jacket. In the morning, the air is still cold.  One may think that just because it is going to be 50 or above that you do not need to wear something warm.  You can always just carry it later in the day. Late at night it also gets cooler.

Eat plenty of vitamin C, so you do not get a cold. Have oranges frequently and orange juice. If you do not like oranges then have a supplement.

As soon as you feel like if you are catching something, take medicine to prevent it from getting really bad. Go to your doctor if necessary.  Do not let it get any worse. It can become the flu or even H1N1.

So let's stay safe.

Transplant of Organs

Today, I am going to talk about the need for transplants. It is very important that you be aware that there are many people out there who are in need or an organ transplant.

Many people might think that if you are a donor that you may not be able to lead a normal life, but that is not true.  Donors can live the way they have been all their life. By donating an organ, you are helping someone live longer. Giving someone a chance to see their children grow up. Or if it is a child who needs it, then you are giving them a chance to life.

I know that everyone is very busy doing their own things, but how long does it really take to inform yourself of being a donor.  There are many organs needed like liver, heart, pancreas and kidney just to name a few.

This is something we can all do for someone we do/don't know.  Let's leave our fear at home and do something good for someone who needs it.

Major (Clinical) Depression

epression, let's talk about depression. If someone is feeling depressed and is not treated it could lead to suicide. If you are feeling depressed make sure to talk to someone you trust as soon as possible. Get help and start treating your depression.

One type of depression is called major or clinical depression. Symptoms are:
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Feelings or worthlessness or guilt
  • Impaired concentration, indecisiveness
  • Insomnia or hypersomnia (too much sleep)
  • Diminished interest or pleasure
  • Restlessness or being slowed down
  • Recurring thoughts of death or suicide
  • Significant weight loss or gain of more than 5% body fat in one month
These symptoms might make it hard to work, study, sleep, eat and enjoy friends and activities. You can have this kind of depression once in your lifetime or several times in your lifetime.

Major depression affect adults, teens, children and the elderly alike. It may go unnoticed and untreated in children and the elderly. It is also said that about twice as many women than men get major depression because of puberty, menstration, pregnancy, miscarriage and menopause. Other factors may include, increased responsibilities at home or at work, juggling kids, careers, commitments, caring for an elderly parent and raising a child alone.

Men can also get major depression, but it is significantly underreported.  Men are less likely to seek help or even talk about it.  Signs of major depression in men may include:  irritability, anger, or drug and alcohol abuse. By not admitting, it can result in violent behavior both inwards and outwards.  Also, can result in an increase of illness, suicide and homicide.

Symptoms Of A Stroke

A stroke is caused when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. Part of the body controlled by the damaged brain begins to die. You must act quickly to prevent any further damage. For this you must know the symptoms and take quick action.

Some of the symptoms of a stroke are:
  • Sudden numbness, paralysis, or weakness in your face, arm, or leg especially from one side of the body
  • Problems with balance or walking
  • Sudden vision change
  • Drooling or slurred speech
  • New problems with feeling confused, speaking or understanding simple statements
  • Severe headache different than any other

If you have any of these symptoms call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. Even though, they go away right after. You may have had a mini-stroke called a transient ischemic attack or (TIA). That is a warning that a stroke may be coming.

There are two types of stroke:

  • An ischemic stroke is one which a blood clot blocks a vessel in the brain
  • A hemorrhagic stroke develops when an artery in the brain bursts or leaks

The first thing the Doctor needs to know is what kind of stroke it is. The same medicine cannot be used for both kinds of strokes. If you get immediate attention to this matter the right medicine would be given and you may recover better. The Doctor would order an x-ray called a CT scan of the brain to see either the bleeding or the blockage.

The most important thing to remember is to get medical attention right away.

Some Facts About Leukemia

Leukemia is a form of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The marrow can no longer produce normal blood cells-red and white cells. Anemia is a deficiency of red blood cells which most leukemia patients develop. Lack of white blood cells, impairs the body to fight infections

Mostly males get leukemia. There is a higher risk of leukemia in down syndrome patients or those who have genetic abnormalities. A risk factor of leukemia is exposure to x-rays. Leukemia may also occur as a side effect to other cancer treatments.

Symptoms may include fatigue, paleness, weight loss, repeated infections, fever, bruising easily, and nosebleeds or other hemorrhages. In children, these symptoms can appear suddenly.

Leukemia is difficult to diagnose early because the symptoms are like many other less serious conditions. Tests may include blood, bone marrow aspiration and bone marrow biopsy.

Chemotherapy is the most effective treatment. Antibiotics and transfusions of blood are also used as treatments. In some conditions, bone marrow or stem cell transplantation may be useful for treating some forms of leukemia.

Iron Supplements

You tend to feel tired when your iron levels are low. It can be verified with a simple blood test. If with food you cannot get your levels at a good range then iron supplements can be taken, but only if you first talk with your Doctor.

Be careful with taking too much iron because it has been linked to death.

You can find all forms of iron supplements in supermarkets and drugstores. Just look for the one that is best for you. A prescription is not needed.

Men and women who engage in intense exercise may have low stores of iron in their body. They need to take in more foods with iron and also vitamin C to keep it balanced.

The upper limit per day for adults and teenagers 14-18 is 45mg. The limit for children per day is 40 mg. Do not go over these amounts because it will cause iron toxication that will lead to death.

How Important Is Protein In Your Diet

Protein gives you energy. Without protein your body would burn down within a day or two. How much protein should you take in each day? Here is a simple way to calculate the daily intake of protein. Take your body weight and multiply it by either .8 for kilograms or .37 for pounds. The result is the minimum amount per day in grams. There has not been any indication that too much protein can affect you, unless you have kidney disease.

Whey protein can help with weight loss. It controls appetite. By controlling appetite, your weight loss will stay off longer because of the protein that you included in your diet. Some foods that contain protein are as follows: eggs, meat, peanut butter and dairy products.

There are many forms of protein items. You can find protein bars, shakes, and protein powder.

Taking Care of Cholesterol

Having high cholesterol can cause blocked arteries which in turn can cause heart disease. The buildup on the arteries is called plaque. If the artery is blocked, that prevents the flow of blood to reach your heart. There is low density, which is bad and high density, which is good cholesterol. We need both types to have a healthy heart. Sometimes just by adding exercise and diet to your routine you can help keep the levels on target. If that does not work, then you may need a supplement. Ask your Doctor.

Not only does garlic help lower high blood pressure, prevents blood clots, kills bacteria and fungus, but it is also a great supplement to improve heart health. By eating right, you would not need to take any additional supplements or medicines to keep your cholesterol levels just right.

Helpful Health Information

Chronic diseases—such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes—account for 70% of the deaths in the U.S. These diseases also cause major limitations in daily living for almost 1 out of 10 Americans. Chronic diseases are among the most preventable. Adopting healthy behaviors such as eating nutritious foods, being physically active, and avoiding tobacco use can prevent or control the devastating effects of these diseases.

You can eat everything you want just in a smaller amount. You can eat up to six times a day, including snacks. As your body is being fed, the stored fat is being released. Proteins, Fats and Sugars

How do we get our energy in our body? Well, by the foods we eat. That is certain foods that contain sugars, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, dietary fibers and water. The sugar ones are also known as carbohydrates. This is the main source of energy. You can find them in fruits and fruit juices, vegetables, milk, yogurt, bread, cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes and legumes. Other foods that contain sugars, but have very low nutritional value are: white and brown sugars, honey, molasses, syrups, jams, candies and many other sugar treats.

Proteins helps us build, repair and renew body tissue. Antibodies are formed in the blood to fight infection. Meat, poultry, fish and eggs are the main source of proteins. Nuts, seeds, legumes, milk and dairy products also gives us protein.

Now everyone knows about fats. Fats help us absorb substances for good health, such as vitamins A, D, E and K even though, they are high in calories. Having consumed fats gives us a feeling of fullness and also helps maintain body temperature. A form of fats is also known as cholesterol and our body needs it to function well. Cholesterol plays a big part in making Vitamin D and hormones. High levels of cholesterol can harden the arteries and cause cardiovascular diseases. In order to lessen the danger of cardiovascular diseases do the following. Maintain good weight, stop smoking, exercise regularly, cut fats intake and eat more dietary fibers like legumes, barley, oats and fruits. Fats are found in oils, butter, margarine, vegetable fats and meat. There are also hidden fats found in nuts, sauces, cheese, deli meats, pies, cakes and pastries. Just limit these and you should be fine.

Why to Include Fiber In Your Diet

Fiber in your diet should be included because as you might already know, helps you be regular. When choosing a cereal make sure to start one with fiber in it. There are also snack bars with fiber. The amount of fiber you should be getting from foods is 30 to 40 grams a day. Many foods have fiber like apples with the skin on, bananas, peaches, whole wheat bread and pasta, avocado, carrots, walnuts, sunflower seeds and many others. If you are not getting enough fiber in your diet then take a fiber supplement. You can find them anywhere you can find supplements.

Besides helping you with constipation, fiber in your diet also helps you against hemorrhoids, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, obesity, colon cancer, diabetes and heart disease. A diet rich in high fiber foods is essential for your ultimate health. Dietary fiber is vital for prevention or treatment of diverticulitis, diabetes, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease.
I am open for any comments from you. Stay safe and healthy.

Weight Loss Program

Like on said on my first post, I lost weight taking supplements and eating right. I will tell you how I lost 20 pounds and have kept it off for the last two years. First of all, make sure to check with your doctor before you start any weight loss program. Make sure you can lose the weight you want to lose. Once you get the OK from your doctor, then you can start your program. There are many programs out there. I can only talk about the one that worked for me.

The program that I used had nutritional meals and supplements. I used the program they have to lose 10-20 pounds. It consisted of a shake mix, vitamins, tablets for cell absorption, tablets for cellulose and an herbal tea for energy and fat burning. The way the program works is you have to substitute two meals for the shake and eat one sensible meal. By sensible meal, I mean eat a smaller portion from what you normally eat. Make sure you have protein, which could be tuna, chicken, egg, peanut butter and many other things. The other very important thing you need to do is drink lots of water. Water helps your body flush out all the things your body does not need. Now you are probably thinking, well I already drink lots of water, but the truth is that we think we are drinking enough and really are not. The minimum amount of water you would need is 96 oz. The maximum amount is measured by your weight. Yes, your weight. Whatever your body weight is that is how many ounces of water you should drink. By following this I lost 20 pounds in the first 3 weeks on the program. Then I lost another 10 in the next month or two. I went from a size 14 pant to a size 8.

You can find these products from Herbalife independent distributors. I can give you further information. Just write me back. I accept anyone out there who has had success taking supplements to tell me their story.

Another combination would be Iron and Vitamin C.

Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron. For example if you serve liver for dinner , you should include a food rich in Vitamin C like an orange, grapefruit, kiwi, cantaloupe, strawberries, tomato juice or broccoli.

Using Herbal Supplements

Many people are now using herbal supplements to have a healthier body. Of course, I am one of those people. I even lost weight doing it. The supplements that I used were from a very well known source. The company is a large supplier of herbal supplements and weight loss products.
The products can be bought through independent distributors and also through many stores which carry supplements. The products you need can even be shipped directly to your home without even leaving your house.
